A TWO-YEAR-OLD Italian child drowned recently in the swimming pool of a holiday villa in Praia da Luz, Lagos. The accident occurred at the end of the afternoon while his father was cooking, his mother was taking a shower and his cousins were playing elsewhere. When the child’s mother came out of the shower, she immediately noticed the child was missing. A search of the house and grounds proved fruitless, until finally the toddler was found floating in the pool. The infant was rushed to a private clinic in Praia da Luz, where a medical team spent over two hours trying to revive the child, but without success. An autopsy carried out at the Hospital do Barlavento in Portimão indicated that death had been by drowning. The child’s body was flown back to Rome for burial.
