An 18-month old baby drowned next to the EN125, between Faro and Olhão, last Tuesday (January 8) afternoon.
The Portuguese parents found the toddler unconscious near a water-filled ditch and shortly after, the baby went into cardio-respiratory arrest due to the water in his lungs. Despite the paramedics’ efforts, the baby died later that day in hospital. It is believed that the child had left the house while his parents were out but it is unlikely that they will be charged with negligence.
