An English folk festival entitled ‘Costa del Folk’ will be taking place at the Tivoli Hotel in Carvoeiro starting this weekend (October 3-7).
Acts include Seth Lakeman, Barbara Dickson, Show of Hands, Wizz Jones, Sally Barker, Demon Barbers, Coco and the Butterfields, Tim Edey, the Young’uns, Lady Maisery, Ewan McLennan and the band that has become the “festival house band”, the Mighty Doonans.
The concept of the event, which mixes “folk music with four-star hotel accommodation”, was successfully tested last year in Spain and is now being brought over to the Algarve.
“Until now, the image of an English folk festival for many people coupled good music with the downside of camping in a cold, wet field, inadequate toilet facilities and lengthy queues for overpriced food and drink,” explain organisers Enjoy Travel – adding: “In contrast, the Costa del Folk concept offers four-star hotel accommodation overlooking the ocean, fine food and drink, plus good weather and great music.”
The festival will feature “indoor and outdoor main stages for fully seated concerts, a late-night folk club, plus sing-alongs and sessions, workshops and ceilidhs”.
The festival only sells five-day tickets at the cost of £180 (around €243). Alternatively, people can book a five-day stay at the hotel including full access, with prices ranging from £469 to £599 (€633 to €808).
