‘Tis the season to be jolly in Lagoa and Carvoeiro

Lagoa and Carvoeiro will be hosting their annual Christmas fairs on December 6-8 and December 13-15, respectively.

Taking place in front of the Carlos do Carmo municipal auditorium, the ‘Feira de Natal de Lagoa’ will once again feature a live nativity scene with real actors and animals.

For three days, they will recreate the every-day routines of the Hebrews over 2,000 years ago around the time Jesus Christ was born.

There will also be a Christmas market with over 60 exhibitors selling regional products such as handicraft, sweets and much more.

Also planned is a parade through the town’s streets featuring over 600 local schoolchildren.

And to make sure everyone is able to attend the event, there will be a train stopping at several points around the town to take people to the fair.

Just one week later, Lagoa’s Rua 25 de Abril and Largo 5 de Outubro will be lined with several ‘living statues’, the name given to street artists who can keep stationary poses for several hours at a time.

It is an impressive spectacle that has become popular in Lagoa during the festive season.

The ‘living statues’ will be performing between 3pm and 6pm on December 13 and between 10am and 1pm on December 14.

That same weekend (December 13-15) Carvoeiro will be hosting its Christmas fair, called ‘Aldeia Pirata ao Vivo’.

It will feature pirate-themed entertainment as well as stalls selling handicraft, local products and even mulled wine!

Carvoeiro will also be hosting its first major New Year’s Eve Party at the main square (click here).
