Thursday’s Covid bulletin: 16 deaths – highest number for four months

Today’s Covid bulletin comes with the news that 16 people have died with the virus in the last 24-hours. This is the highest number of fatalities in a 24-hour period since March. The majority of deaths (nine) were in the Lisbon/ Vale do Tejo region, followed by four in the north, two in the Algarve and one in the central region. New cases flagged were 3,622 with 3,000 people having ‘recovered’ from testing positive. Hospital numbers have reduced slightly (to 860 overall), but ICUs are still coping with 178 seriously ill patients. This is well within the limit of Portugal’s ICU capacity, but still far from ideal. Covid infections generally in Europe are ‘spiralling’. For today’s bulletin click here.
