Thunderstorms bring new damages to north

The heavens opened yesterday afternoon in the northern district of Vila Real, bringing hailstorms and thunder and lightning as well as heavy rain. Local reports cited the falling of trees and various situations of flooding. The only ‘good news’ is that the bad weather fell in areas that have been hit by some of this summer’s worst wildfires, and will have dampened down the land somewhat. That said, Correio da Manhã this morning says the bad weather still managed to cause fires in Montalegre and Chaves. The bombeiros portugueses facebook page describes “a chaotic situation”.
