Santa Maria da Feira || A terrified three-year-old is still recovering from the nightmare morning when she was left on the school bus for over four hours. If it hadn’t been for her mother going to the crèche to pick her up at lunchtime, the child would have had to suffer even longer.
As it was, Cátia Moreira went into panic when she discovered “Di” had not turned up after the 10-minute bus ride to kindergarten in Vilares, Santa Maria da Feira. The GNR was alerted, and it did not take long for officers to track little Diana down to the back of the school bus, “wet through, with her trousers in her hands and starving hungry”.
The child “could hardly open her eyes for crying” and an inquiry is now ongoing to find out how the bus driver and assistant could have missed her and left the bus in its parking bay without a second glance.
Even worse is the fact that the company is reported to be refusing to comment.
“It shows a great lack of responsibility not to admit a mistake like this,” Cátia Moreira told SIC TV news.
The family is now considering legal action while the local council, which uses the bus company, told the news channel it has opened an inquiry.
Needless to say, little Diana has told her parents she no longer wants to ride to kindergarten on the school bus.
