The Ministry of Education has announced that it will be shutting down 311 primary schools in Portugal this coming school year, but the Algarve only accounts for three of them – the Fonte Santa and Escanxinas schools in the municipality of Loulé, and Cerro de Ouro, in Ferreiras, Albufeira.
This means that the previously-announced Marmelete (Monchique), Corotelo (S. B. de Alportel), Odeleite (Castro Marim) and Ancão (Faro) primary schools were left off the ministry’s now official ‘to-be-shut-down’ list.
Contrary to what was previously reported, the Ilha do Ancão Primary School on Faro Island will after all not be closing down.
