The condition of one of them, a female German tourist, is “evolving favourably” while the Portuguese tour guide who was on the bus underwent surgery “successfully” on Monday, Madeira’s health service revealed in a statement on Monday.

Also hospitalised is the Portuguese bus driver who is receiving “mental health care”.

The horrific accident happened when the bus, which was carrying 55 passengers, skidded and fell down the side of a hill crashing on top of a house at around 6.30pm in the area of Caniço.
