Three men suspected of being serial arsonists now behind bars

PJ police have continued with their pro-active focus on detentions for arson, putting another three ‘habitual offenders’ behind bars. Say reports one of the men (all of whom are Portuguese), was found ‘in flagrante’ while the other two have been detained as the result of inquiries. The men are believed to have  been behind “dozens of fires in the boroughs of Alenquer, Arruda dos Vinhos and Santarém”. They have been presented before magistrates, and remanded in custody, pending further inquiries – a marked change in practices in the past, where courts frequently gave alleged arsonists the benefit of the doubt.
