Three separate inquiries are said to be underway following the horrific lift-shaft plunge of a cleaning woman at the Attorney General’s Office in Lisbon just before Christmas. The victim has since died from her injuries, but at time of writing, there still had not been an autopsy, which has added to the agony and desperation of her family. The main question is how did the accident happen? It appears the platform of a ‘goods lift’ malfunctioned, so that the woman – in leaning forwards to take what she thought would be on it – fell metres to the bottom of the lift shaft. According to reports, the lift had only recently had one of its regular maintenance checks.
