Three French hens and other farmyard friends

Galeria Côrte-Real in Paderne is displaying handmade ceramics produced by two independent potteries, new to the gallery, this Christmas.

Le Ceramique de Lussan is a family concern established more than 30 years ago in Provencal. Specialising in charming French hens, pullets and guinea fowl, the contemporary designs by Heidi Caillard are made from local clay and are artistically hand-painted.

A similar small pottery is producing individual farmyard figures designed by Quail in Kent, UK.

They are different in concept as the animals are representational and each of them has a function in the kitchen.

Bringing unique handmade collectables to the Algarve, the gallery has an unusual range of Christmas gifts that help to support worthwhile cottage industries.

Côrte-Real’s Christmas Fayre raising money for the Portuguese Heart Foundation Fundação Portuguesa de Cardiologia takes place on November 26 and 27.

Wines to taste will be supplied by the Côrte-Real winery (red) and Herdade dos Grous (white) with complimentary winter savouries prepared by local chef Jonnie Pratt.

During the weekend, an entry charge of €2 will be made.

The rural gallery is signposted from Boliqueime, Ferreiras and Paderne and is open from Thursday to Sunday, from 11am until 5pm. Call 918 980 199 or 912 737 762.
