Three die “mown down by trains” in 24 hours

Three people in different parts of the country died in the space of 24 hours after being hit by trains.

The victims were a 50 year old woman in Alhandra, described as crossing the line with her husband after a stint fishing in the Tejo, a man in Valongo and a 73-year-old pensioner in Portimão, Algarve.

In the first incident, the husband “saw the train approaching” and leapt to safety.
