Three die at bike meeting

THREE DEAD, and three seriously injured is the final balance of 24 accidents recorded by the GNR in the four days of the 24th International Motorcycle Meeting in Faro which brought around 35,000 motorcyclists to the Algarve capital.

All of the deceased were reported to have been resident in the Algarve. Over the course of the event, the GNR made only 24 arrests among the 35,000 motorcyclists attending: seven for driving without a license, 11 for drunken driving, three for disobedience, two for injuring GNR officers and one for falsification of documents. Nevertheless, Faro police sources say that, overall, the event was well organized and that the behaviour of those attending was, in general, an improvement on last year.
