Three detained for drug trafficking

The Polícia Judiciária (PJ) have arrested two people at Lisbon Airport for attempted drug trafficking. The haul would have supplied 25,000 individual doses of cocaine on the black market. The man and woman, aged 32 and 35, were Brazilians from São Paulo. Police believe they were trying to smuggle the cocaine to Lisbon and Barcelona. One of the smugglers had also ingested quantities of the drug, requiring hospital treatment as a result. The PJ at the airport also detained a woman from Cape Verde, but resident in Portugal, who was trying to smuggle heroin, equivalent to 15,000 individual doses, to the Azores. The 42-year-old woman, who was apprehended by a security guard, had wrapped the drugs around her body.
