Three Algarve towns are among Portugal’s top 25 destinations according to a list by city branding company Bloom Consulting: Faro (13th), Albufeira (18th) and Portimão (20th).
The ranking assesses the performance of the nation’s boroughs in the categories of “business, tourism and quality of living”.
Lisbon took the top spot once again followed by Porto, Braga, Cascais and Coimbra.
The Algarve towns made the top 25 mostly due to their success in tourism, Bloom explains.
In fact, the region has five towns among the national top 25 when tourism is the only category taken into account: Albufeira (4th), Portimão (6th), Tavira (9th), Faro (13th) and Lagos (15th).
The ranking also lists the best destinations in each region.
In the Algarve, Faro is at the top followed by Albufeira, Portimão, Tavira and Lagos.
The goal of the study is to measure the strategy municipalities use to manage and promote their brand.
Bloom hopes that this helps boroughs decide how to set their priorities and understand the way they are perceived both inside the country and out.
