Three Algarve hotels featured in luxury travel guide Condé Nast Johansens

Three hotels in the Algarve – Tivoli Carvoeiro, Tivoli Marina Vilamoura and Anantara Vilamoura – have been included in the 2021 edition of Condé Nast Johansens, a guide to the world’s best luxury hotels.

Described by Expresso newspaper as the “Bible” of travellers with high-spending power, the guide features a total of 28 Portuguese hotels.

The feat is all the more impressive considering countries like France and the USA only saw four and 11 of their hotels included in the guide, respectively.

In the Lisbon region, the hotels recommended by Condé Nast Johansens were Janelas Verdes, Britania, Heritage Avenida Liberdade, Olissipo Lapa Palace, Palácio Estoril, Santiago Alfama Boutique Hotel, The Lumiares Hotel, Tivoli Avenida Liberdade, Torel Palace, The Vintage Hotel, Albatroz and Tivoli Palácio de Seteais.

Further north in Porto, seven hotels were featured: Pestana Palácio do Freixo, Torel Avantgarde, Vila Foz Hotel, Torre de Gomariz, Porto Palácio, Torel Palace and Torel 1884 Suites & Apartments.

One hotel in the Alentejo also received the Condé Nast Johansens ‘seal of approval’ (The Noble House Hotel).

Meanwhile in Portugal’s archipelagos, Madeira saw three hotels make the list – Quinta da Casa Branca, Estalagem da Ponta do Sol and Quinta dos Jardins do Lago – while the Azores saw two – Terra Nostra Garden Hotel and Gran Hotel Açores Atlântico.

Condé Nast Johansens is described on its website as “a global collection of independent luxury hotels, spas and venues approved annually by local experts.

“With over 38 years’ experience inspecting and recommending properties throughout the world, our team of dedicated and highly trained local experts inspects each property year-on-year. If we recommend a property, you can trust you’ll have an exceptional experience,” it says.
