Thousands spent on market refurbishment

THE THIRD and final phase of refurbishment of Lagoa’s municipal market, which will cost the Câmara 133,000 euros, is due to be completed by Christmas.

The market will have a new roof as well as new refrigerators and marble work tops.

“We are installing new items to guarantee greater security for the stall holders and better hygiene in the market place,” said Lagoa Câmara President José Inácio.

The Câmara decided to refurbish the existing building instead of constructing a new municipal market because it serves those who live in the town centre and is a social place for the local community.

Until the work is complete, the stall holders will sell their goods from temporary mobile units, located opposite the municipal market.
