Thousands of Portuguese have arrived in Algarve

Thousands of Portuguese have arrived in the Algarve for the so-called ‘mini-férias’ (mini-holidays) that resulted from back-to-back Public Holidays yesterday and today.

Most of the new arrivals have taken tomorrow ‘off work’, to extend the break south to five days.

In other words, the exodus back north will come on Sunday.

In the meantime, despite the less than perfect weather, hotels, beaches, beach bars and restaurants from the south coast to the Costa Vicentina are enjoying swift trade.

Inland too, guesthouses and rural tourism complexes are benefitting, with some apparently 100% full.

‘Long may it last’ is the feeling in the air… and roll on the next long weekend!
