About an hour after the final mass of World Youth Day (WYD) in Lisbon ended, thousands of people left Parque Tejo, leaving behind a trail of rubbish, writes Lusa. “Lusa agency travelled part of the lawn of sector A of the enclosure where the Mass presided over by Pope Francis took place, finding rubbish on the ground in the clearing areas”. To be fair, the ‘rubbish’ was neither toxic or very disgusting: mainly water bottles and food wrappings. Considering so many sweltered stoically under extremely difficult conditions, with a dearth of trees for shade, it was probably the least organisers could have expected.
