Following last week’s detention of two men suspected of having been involved in the gunbattle in Ameixoeira on March 31, police have captured a third man today (Friday) in Viana do Castelo, in the north of Portugal.
The 26-year-old is “strongly suspected” of attempted murder and causing affray, as well as possession of a prohibited weapon, writes Diário de Notícias.
According to a statement put out by judicial police (PJ), he absconded along with three others after the terrifying gun battle last month that saw three police shot, two in the head, along with two female civilians (click here).
A major police raid on the “problematic neighbourhood” ensued days later, seeing a further six people arrested and various weapons seized (click here).
While a full report on the incident is being compiled, police have neither confirmed nor denied that they are still looking for a fourth gunman.
