TWO HOODED individuals broke into Modelo supermarket in Loulé on Boxing Day morning, stealing thousands of euros worth of mobile phones and cameras.
The robbers were caught on CCTV breaking the padlocks on the two sets of iron railings that protect the entrance, before forcing open the automatic glass doors that allow access into the establishment using a crowbar.
Once inside, they went straight to the electronics section and proceeded to take a selection of the latest mobile phones and camera equipment.
Although the break-in was filmed by the surveillance system in place, due to the thieves’ heads being covered, it has prevented the police from establishing a detailed description of the two individuals.
This has prompted a police source to state that the individuals had prior knowledge of the workings of the interior surveillance system in place and had planned their movements carefully in order to keep their faces well concealed.
Despite the alarm not going off, the robbery was discovered at 5am, when a GNR patrol from the Loulé GNR spotted the broken railings outside the supermarket and the store manager was immediately alerted.
Modelo has refused to reveal any detailed information about the case, including the value of the goods that were taken.
