This summer, the Algarve will play host to what promises to be the biggest Electronic Music Festival that Portugal has ever seen. The Resident is proud to be the only English language newspaper sponsoring this unique event.
DJ and ex-record company owner, Alex Sparrow, has teamed up with Portuguese promoter Samuel Laranjeira to stage the 24-hour República Independente party on July 17 at the Krazy World theme park in Algoz. Among the acts already confirmed to play are the Chemical Brothers who will headline the event.
There will be two stages – the main one will feature quality house and breaks, and the second stage will be devoted to nu-jazz, hip-hop and drum ‘n’ bass.
In an exclusive interview, Alex Sparrow explained to The Resident: “The Algarve is the perfect place for this event, being surrounded by beautiful beaches and guaranteed sunshine. Most events in Portugal are a combination of rock, pop and dance, but this event is about putting together something eclectic, with the emphasis on quality music.
There is also loads of other stuff going on, including international graffiti and installation artists, quality visuals, midgets and very tall people as well.”
