Portimão’s Sardine Festival, taking place from August 3 to 11, will offer more than delicious grilled sardines.
Visitors to the Parque de Feiras e Exposições will also be able to enjoy a vast programme of entertainment, including concerts by popular national bands, fado, handicrafts and street theatre.
Fish lovers will, however, be in for a real treat as the sardine will definitely be queen of the festival with thousands of freshly caught and salted fish will be charcoal grilled to bring out their rich flavour and served on the spot.
The festival, now in its 18th year, attracts thousands of visitors who this year will gather at the Parque de Feiras e Exposições to enjoy typical gastronomy while listening to live music.
Portugal’s big names in music performing at the festival include Os Azeitonas (August 3) and Mónica Ferraz (4th).
An area dedicated to fado and tapas (Fado & Petiscos) will be an opportunity to taste delicious food while listening to traditional Portuguese sounds in a “bohemian atmosphere”. There will also be jazz, folk dancing and stand-up comedy.
The festival runs from 6.30pm to 1am each night and costs €5 per person. A three day ticket costs €14.
Children up to 10 years old enter for free.
