Algarve-born German surfer Melvin Lipke took the 2008 B.Side regional title at the Arrifana beach on the west coast on Sunday.
It is expected that the Open category winner will follow in the footsteps of older brother Marlon, who has been granted a wild card entry to the top WTC world tour this year.
