Palm Sunday (April 1) sees the celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ at a pre-Easter event in Pêra.
This special event, called Paixão de Cristo – Via Sacra ao Vivo (The Passion of Christ – The Holy Way of the Cross Live), is organised by Pêra Parish Council and supported by Silves Câmara.
This biennial tradition started in 2005 and has been held ever since. Organisers had hoped that the event could be held annually but Carlos Cristovão, a member of the organising committee, said that due to the work involved, it has to be every two years.
The Palm Sunday event will start at 9pm from Largo 25 de Abril.
Some 150 volunteers are involved in the run-up to the big day and more than 2,500 visitors are expected to attend as in previous years.
