The oldest

A PORTUGUESE woman has been recognised as the oldest person alive by the Guinness Book of World Records.

At 115 years-old, Maria de Jesus, who lives in Tomar, central Portugal, was officially named as the oldest person alive on November 27, after the previous title holder, Edna Parker from the US, died.

Maria was born on September 10, 1893, during the reign of Portugal’s king Dom Carlos.

She was widowed at the age of 57 and never remarried. Maria had six children, although three have died, 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
