BROWNS Sport & Leisure Club once again welcomed 2003 Swedish Football Champions, Djugardens IF (DIF), to the Algarve for their 2005 pre-season training camp. It was a chance to sharpen their footballing skills and use Browns’ excellent training facilities for the first time. March 22 saw DIF really kick-start their pre-season with a friendly fixture against Norwegian side, Ham Kam, who are also in the area for pre-season training. The first half saw the sides fairly evenly matched, with most of the action occurring in the midfield. However, Djurgardens’ Gambian goalkeeper, Pa Dembo Tourray, made an excellent save to keep the score line goalless after 45 minutes. The second half saw the play improve dramatically as many players found their touch and both sides made substitutions. It was Djurgardens who drew first blood when they took the lead on the 71st minute from their striker Jones Kusi-Asare. However, it wasn’t long before Ham Kam replied and, on the 80th minute, Nigerian Oluwasegun Abiodun equalled. The remainder of the game was an evenly fought match, and as such the end result of 1-1 was a fair one.
