The most romantic journey in Europe

IF YOU still haven’t travelled on the newly refurbished tram line in Sintra, you can enjoy a ride this winter thanks to a new seasonal timetable that’s just been announced. The route dubbed, ‘the most romantic journey in Europe’, runs between Estefânea and Praia das Maçãs. Despite a reduction in its operating hours, the 100-year-old tram is still scheduled to function on Fridays, Saturday and Sundays, with departures from Sintra, close to the Modern Art Museum, at 10am, 12 noon, 2pm and finally 4pm. Trams leave Praia das Maçãs for the return journey at 11am, 1pm and 3pm, with the final tram leaving at 4.45pm, Sintra Câmara has said that in the case of very bad weather, rain and strong winds, these times could be subject to change.

The cost of a single ticket remains priced at one euro per journey, but children up to six years go free and over 65s pay one euro for a return journey. In addition, family tickets (with no limit on the number of people) are available for a return trip at a cost of four euros.
