news: The ‘Hill Folk’ raise €900

As Serranas is a ladies’ networking group for those living away from the coast that meets once a month in the São Brás–Vilamoura-Alte area. Started 14 years ago, it now numbers 35 members and raises money through its coffee mornings for a wide variety of Algarvean charities.

Following a vote atthe group’s AGM last year, it was Madrugada’s turn and last week the group handed over a cheque for €900 to Madrugada President Alison Blair.

The event was held on the viewing terrace of the Alte Hotel and included sales of plants, books and produce. In thanking As Serranas for the donation, Alison Blair said: “Once again this demonstrates how individual groups along the Algarve are supporting Madrugada in its quest to bring palliative care to the community and help those and their families affected by life-limiting illness. It is never going to be easy and we still have a long way to go, but with groups like this behind us the outlook is bright.”

||Golf event to be repeated on March 27

The sporting goods event held last Saturday in Madrugada’s proposed Praia da Luz day centre was a success raising more than €1,600 in donations in just a few hours.

Even so, many golfers were unable to attend and have asked organisers if they could repeat the event, so this will take place on March 27 in the same location (100a Rua Direita).

Meanwhile, Madrugada’s thanks go to the members of Serra de Monchique, Boavista and Vale de Milho golf clubs for their generous support. The money will go towards getting the centre up and running, and specialist equipment used when caring for patients in their homes.
