The high cost  of golf

Dear Editor,

As a regular visitor to the Algarve it is refreshing to see that at last, the Portuguese tourist industry has woken up.

The green fees for golf should be the next to be slashed. I know that we Brits have an additional burden with the poor state of the pound, but even so, we are balking at being asked to pay the fees that the Algarve courses are asking.

The courses seem to have cut costs by staff reductions leaving the course to suffer and the service in the clubhouse to be reduced. We can pay less to play a truly magnificent course in Ireland or the UK. Stop this “high season/low season” nonsense and charge around 30 euros a round and your courses will be full morning till night.
