… bit by bit parched territory is recovering
The Green is back! This is a joyous tweet by weather authority Meteo Trás-os-Montes, which carries satellite images of Portugal taken in September (at the height of the drought) and two months later, on November 25, after rain had started falling.

With more rain forecast this week, it is not as if the whole country is out of the woods: dams in the south are still critically low. But it’s a start. It’s so much better than nothing… and the winter still has some way to go.
Getting into its stride, Meteo Trás-os-Montes has also commented in the media warning of ‘the Beast from the East’ (a wave of polar air emanating from Russia “due to arrive in the next few days”). The weather authority labels the forecasting “fake news” and just says ‘the saga of the Beast from the East continues’…
