HAVING BEEN established in the Algarve for almost 15 years, The Printshop has now changed hands. Gil Mather officially took over the business on March 3 from previous owner and founder, Keith Godby.
Having holidayed in the region a number of times, partly because his brother has lived here for seven years, Gil and his family had planned to eventually move out to retire.
However, after spotting an advertisement on the internet last year for a ‘small print business with potential growth’, Gil asked his brother if he knew anything about the business. It turned out that he knew the business well, being a client himself.
Negotiations were completed last August and Keith and his wife June prepared for retirement, following a lifetime of working in the printing industry in the UK as well as Portugal. “It’s been hard work but we have enjoyed it,” said Keith. “I have never had to go out on the road to sell so the company has got enormous potential.” The couple plan to stay in the Algarve and continue to enjoy the sun “and local golf courses!”
Gil also has a wealth of experience in the printing business, having worked with Ladybird books, The Art Group and CRP Printing and Packaging in England. His plans for The Printshop include updating and modernising the company’s logo and reception area, as well as liaising with staff members Alberto and Ligia to develop the business, and a website, using modern technology.
“We hope to build upon the work that Keith has developed, to offer our customers an improved service and keep up The Printshop’s excellent reputation,” said Gil, whose wife and son will be joining him in the summer. His daughter remains in the UK, where she will continue to study veterinary medicine at Cambridge University.
With countless clients along the Algarve, including the Four Seasons and Pinheiros Altos, the future of The Printshop looks bright.
