The cat that’s got the cream

FOR THOSE British expatriates among us, are your dreams filled with jam doughnuts, HP sauce and Heinz baked beans? In some Portuguese supermarkets, does your wallet run for the hills when presented with the prices of these beloved groceries? Well, run no more! Montys-Online-Grocery-Service (MOGS) will take the hassle out of shopping.

Supplying across the whole of the Algarve, from Vila Real de Santo António to Parque da Floresta (Lagos), Paula and Séamus Montgomery will take your order for products from Tesco, Sainsbury or other British stores by phone, fax or e-mail, order the items online and deliver them for no extra charge to one of their 16 drop-off points every Thursday. With no hidden extras, the price you see in euros on their website (www.mogsonline.com) or in their brochure is what you pay.

Since starting on November 7 last year, MOGS has proved tremendously popular, mainly with British expatriates, but with some Dutch residents as well, who treat them as their own personal supermarket.

Paula and Séamus have set up their user-friendly website to give people another way of placing their orders. MOGS now deliver to around 30 customers every week, but their total client base is well into the hundreds and nothing is too much trouble for the Montgomery’s. “We’ve delivered a tin of cat food all the way to Tavira for an elderly client who could not make it to the drop-off point on one occasion,” Séamus said. That’s another plus point to their business: if a client is house bound or without transport, MOGS will deliver to their door, again at no extra cost. “We’re happy to help. It’s almost like we’re doing their shopping for them,” Paula added.

With their own lock-up for storage and van for deliveries, MOGS also sponsors the midday hour on Kiss FM radio station. Not only do they provide a competitively priced service for the Algarve, they also bring people together. “On drop-off days, queues form where people make new friends from the area!” Paula laughed.

Don’t get left eggless this Easter, MOGS are already taking orders for hot cross buns and Easter eggs. Don’t delay – order today!
