THE SEVENTH annual Casa Décor, which showcases the best of Portuguese contemporary interior design, was inaugurated in Lisbon on Thursday.
This year, Casa Décor has exhibitors in two locations, in Rua Garrett in the heart of Lisbon’s Baixa Chiado, and in Matosinhos in the north of Portugal.
Running until October 21, Casa Décor in Lisbon brings together 60 interior design professionals, in 50 showcase spaces, spread out over an area of 3,500 square meters, on six floors.
Around 100 Portuguese interior designers, furniture and fabric design professionals join architects in both editions of Casa Décor Portugal 2007, which this year show the latest tendencies in blending styles from the 1970s and neo-Baroque with cutting-edge designs.
The tendency continues to point towards the influence of globalisation and the blending of different and diverse cultural influences.
Today a successful internationally exported interior design event, Casa Décor began in Argentina in 1985, with the idea of not only providing a platform for new ideas and talented new designers, but also helping charities. In Portugal, various institutions have benefited from money raised from the event including the Cruz Vermelha Portuguesa (Portuguese Red Cross), Apartis and the Fundação Gil (which helps vulnerable children).
