The Art of Maramgoní: visual artist celebrates 30-year career with special exhibition and book

A masterful dialogue between past and future with mastery, The Art of Maramgoní will be on display at the Lagos Cultural Centre until October 9.

Born in São Paulo, Brazil, Waldemar Maramgoní Junior is a new resident in the Algarve and this special exhibition marks his debut in Portugal, taking us on a journey through his artistic trajectory of the last 30 years. The artist was a precocious talent, interested since childhood in drawing and showing great ability with shapes and proportions. He started giving painting lessons at just 15 years old.

Maramgoní expresses in his work a nostalgic and, at the same time, vigorous vision of old and new cities and takes us on a journey through his universe. The black and white canvases invite us into the towns of the 19th century. Moving on to colour, he depicts the reality of urban spaces today.

In the search for a new artistic reading, based on new aesthetic matters that are reflected in an exquisite design, the artist showcases great pictorial knowledge and procedure based on a philosophical architecture.
