The Amigos are back!

They are back after a two-year break. The non-profit organisation Amigos de Música de São Lourenço, an international group of around 80 members who stage musical activities by internationally renowned musicians and also sponsor young Portuguese musicians, will be starting their new concert programme in September at a new venue.
The group has been working for nearly 25 years and was originally located at Centro Cultural de São Lourenço. However, after a two-year pause, they are back with a vengeance and a new venue: Os Agostos, an impressive 18th century country estate located above Santa Bárbara de Nexe and near Bordeira, will welcome the new season’s first concerts – featuring the well-known pianist Evgeny Gromov – on September 23 and 25.
The renowned Ukrainian pianist will be performing works by Jean-Philippe Rameau and the Musique Française de la Belle Époque, and composers such as Debussy, Ravel, Roussel and Satie, on Tuesday, September 23. Two days later, he will Schoenberg and Debussy: Two Faces of European Modernism.
Born in 1973 in Klopotivtsi, a village south-west of Kiev, Evgeny Gromov started his music studies when he was seven, and entered the Tchaikovsky National Musical Academy of Ukraine in 1991 for a five-year study program. Evgeny has since attended master classes and workshops of the German composer Helmuth Lachenmann, as well as Pierre Boulez and the Hungarian composer Peter Eotvos.
The pianist’s repertoire includes works by Purcell, J.S.Bach, Handel, Scarlatti, Beethoven, Wagner and Brahms, but he now specialises in 20th century music, particularly by Satie, Debussy, Ravel, Bartok and others, including contemporary Ukrainian composers.
Along with his performing activity, Evgeny is a researcher and educator, as well as the creator and performer of conceptual music projects that establish links between different musical epochs.
Having recorded many CDs, he has been in constant collaboration with many Ukrainian composers and has made over 100 world and Ukrainian premieres of their work.
Concerts at Os Agostos begin at 7pm sharp. Doors open at 6pm and wine, fruit juices and canapés are served from 6.30pm. Entry donation is €25 for guests and non-members. For concert bookings please send an e-mail to reservasconcertos@gmail.com or call Cristina at 914797980.
