Poets and pints evening
THE ALGARVEANS’ last social evening was not well attended, but with true Algarvean stoicism, Jenny and Gordon have agreed to arrange another ‘Poets & Pints’ evening. This will be held at Mariners Bar/Restaurant in Rua Santa Isabel, Portimão, on Friday, October 21, at 7.30pm for 8pm.
The menu given by Jim is as follows, although on request, Jim will provide an alternative for either vegetarians or those with allergies. Main menu: Garlic bread, pork fillet with port and cranberry sauce, fresh vegetables and new potatoes; for dessert, Caribbean crepes will be served.
The cost to members will be 12 euros and for non-members 15 euros. If you would like to make a booking, telephone Jenny or Gordon on 282 381 201 or email [email protected]. Let Jenny and Gordon know if you wish to make a contribution in the way of entertainment, a poem, short reading and so on.
Panto auditions
Pantomime May not be until February next year, but The Algarveans are casting now for their grand spectacular show of the year. Anyone who would like to join in the fun of this annual feast of corny jokes, singing and dancing is welcome to attend the auditions for ‘Dick Turpin’. The Dame has, of course, got to be played by a man and Dick Turpin has to be played by a girl! The baddies and the goodies can be played by anyone, as can the front and back end of the cow. Of course, we must also have a pretty Baron’s daughter and… who wants to be Cuddly Katy? There are lots of parts available for anyone who is prepared to have fun and play the fool. Children’s auditions will be held at a later date. Turn up on the night of October 4, at 7pm for 7.30pm at Mariners Bar in Portimão or ring 963 518 184 for more details.
