Thai hotel group Six Senses is in “negotiations” to open a new hotel in the Algarve.
The group wants to expand its presence in Portugal, where it already runs the luxury Six Senses Douro Valley hotel in the northern Douro region.
“We love Portugal and we want to reinforce our presence in the country,” said Nick Yarnell, general manager of Six Senses Douro Valley.
He told ECO digital magazine that “the Algarve, Comporta, Alentejo, Lisbon and Porto” are all possibilities, though negotiations are already underway to open a unit in Portugal’s southernmost region.
Yarnell says, however, that there is “nothing concrete yet” and that a new hotel will open no sooner than 2020.
The group also plans to expand the Six Senses Douro Valley hotel by 10 rooms, and build 14 houses to sell.
