Testing summer preparations

A TOTAL of 18 men, six vehicles and two ambulances from Loulé and Albufeira bombeiros, Albufeira and Vilamoura GNR, as well as the Maritime Police, were called to the Praia da Rocha Baixinha in Vilamoura recently for two emergency rescues. One ‘victim’ was caught in a fire, which quickly spread to a local restaurant. Another ‘victim’ was rescued by local lifeguards from the sea, but had stopped breathing and needed medical assistance. Thankfully, the rescue services were responding to a simulation to test their emergency equipment. “This is one of the most popular beaches in the Algarve. We want to reassure ourselves, as well as the locals, that we are prepared for any sort of situation,” a spokesperson explained.
