TENERIFE

Survivors nursed by tourists

Tourists on the island came to the aid of 88 African migrants, who reached the Canary Islands on three boats. In total, 205 were on board, many were too weak to walk. Tourists gave them water and food until police arrived, accompanied by the Red Cross. More than 11,000 Africans have risked their lives to reach the islands this year, double last year’s figure.
