Ten million euro marina for Parque das Nações

A NEW yachting marina for Lisbon’s former Expo site Parque das Nações will cost 10 million euros. The marina, which will contain 80 berths, will take 18 months to complete, according to PROMAN – Centro de Estudos e Projectos SA, the company responsible for the engineering project.

The project has also been advanced with the help of Laboratório Nacional de Engenharia Civil (LNEC), national laboratory of civil engineering.

The new marina, which will completely enclose the current quayside and wooden walkways, will be able to welcome 500 boats at any one time from between 10, 12 and 15 metres in length.

It is hoped that the marina will breathe fresh life into the former Expo site in a similar way that the marina in San Francisco did for that city.

The project will stretch from the quayside bridge at Cabo Ruivo to the Expo site, will also be able to take pleasure cruisers and ferries and will be the largest marina in the Greater Lisbon area after Cascais.

The marina could also be extended at a later date to the north with an eventual capacity of 250 to 350 moorings.
