Temporary standstill at Faro Airport

Due to unstable weather conditions, Faro airport terminal was temporarily closed on Wednesday, October 26.

At the time of going to press on Wednesday, winds were predicted to reach gusts of around 65km to 100km per hour and for security reasons the airport terminal was closed to the public, passengers and employees, from noon.

Evacuation of the terminal took place between 11.30am and 1.30pm, when a decrease in air traffic was expected.

Passengers were relocated to the P6 Airport car park, where a temporary structure offered sheltering. The processing of passengers took place at the Pier Bus Terminal, where passenger check-in and security procedures took place.

Twelve  movements were scheduled per hour, allowing six arriving flights and six departures. “Many delays are expected today as it is taking twice as long to process passengers,” said a Faro Airport spokesman.

The spokesman said the airport would remain closed until weather conditions improved.
