Due to unstable weather conditions, Faro airport terminal was announced temporarily closed today, Wednesday 26.
Winds are predicted to reach gusts of around 65km to 100km per hour and for security reasons the airport terminal will be closed to the public, passengers and employees, from 12pm.
Evacuation of the terminal took place between 11.30am and 1.30pm, when a decrease in air traffic was expected.
Passengers were relocated to the P6 Airport car park, where a temporary structure offered sheltering. The processing of passengers is taking place at the Pier Bus Terminal, where passenger check-in and security procedures will take place.
Twelve movements are scheduled per hour, allowing six arriving flights and six departures. “Many delays are expected today as it is taking twice as long to process passengers,” said a Faro Airport spokesman.
The Airport will remain closed until weather conditions improve.
