A new six-month extension of the temporary protection granted to Ukrainian refugees will be approved “very soon” by Portugal’s government, the office of the deputy minister for parliamentary affairs has said today. In a reply sent to Lusa, the office of Minister Ana Catarina Mendes confirmed that the government will be following the European Commission’s intention to extend temporary protection for displaced persons from Ukraine until March 2024. The European Commission announced today that it would extend the temporary protection for people displaced by the war in Ukraine caused by the Russian invasion, guaranteeing support “for as long as necessary”.
