Teens in holiday camp drown in dam in Santiago do Cacém

On the same day that a nine-year-old girl died after being swept up by a wave on Nazaré beach (click here), two teenage boys, aged 15 and 17 and described as “in a holiday camp” but both from Lisbon, drowned in a dam at Quinta da Ortiga in Santiago de Cacém. The details of how the boys drowned have not yet been fully explained. Early reports suggest friends ‘found them in the water’ and got them to the side of the dam. Local firefighters attempted resuscitation. GNR police are investigating.
