Teenagers run down by electric car in Cascais

The comparative quiet of electric car engines was blamed yesterday for an accident in Cascais in which two teenage girls were run down as they crossed a road.

The girls, aged 13 and 16, were taken to hospital.

They had not been aware of the car, writes Correio da Manhã, as it was an electric vehicle that “makes very little noise”.

The younger girl suffered an injury to her back, while the older one was reported to have an injury to her leg.

A total of 17 police, firemen and ambulance crew were called, but the accident is understood to have been of “reduced speed” and both girls remained conscious throughout.

CM stressed they had been hit when crossing Rua Joaquim Ereira but were not using a zebra crossing.
