LISBON hospital Alfredo da Costa had more than 140 cases of teenage pregnancies last year at its specialist maternity ward for girls under the age of 18.
Teenagers represent three per cent of all pregnancies at the hospital each year.
The special unit, which has 13 staff including gynaecologists, obstetricians, psychologists, nutritionists and social workers, receives more than 2,600 teenagers a year for consultations relating to sex education and sexually transmitted diseases.
