FENPROF (the federation of teachers) and nine syndicates involved in the dispute that sees district strikes taking place in schools until February 8 were received today in Belém Palace by a representative of President Marcelo. Portugal’s head of State has explained he does not want to become involved personally, as negotiations are between syndicates and the government. FENPROF secretary general Mário Nogueira appreciated that it was an opportunity for his side to transmit their message, but everything points to the programmed strikes continuing for what is effectively another two weeks.
