Teachers call for simpler Maths curriculum

The percentage of schoolchildren failing 9th year Maths has steadily increased since 2013 when a tough curriculum was brought in by former education minister Nuno Crato.

Teachers say it’s much too hard, requiring pupils to receive extra tuition in order to pass.

They are calling for a ‘new programme’ that makes the subject easier, bearing in mind Maths is one of the ‘two compulsory disciplines’, the other being Portuguese.
